TSCA Mid-Winter Meeting Fort Worth, Texas

March 10, 2001

 

President Leighton Roddy called the meeting of the Texas Shrine Clown Association to order

At 2:05 PM on March 10, 2001

 

TSCA Chaplain George White gave invocation.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was lead by 2nd Vice President Jim Fite.  The Pledge to the Texas Flag was lead by TCSA Past President Pete Peters.

 

President Leighton Roddy welcomed everyone to Fort Worth and thanked everyone for their participation in the activities at midwinter.

 

President Leighton Roddy apologized to everyone for his inappropriate rudeness at the Friday

night dinner dance.

 

President Leighton Roddy introduced the following TSCA Officers. Parliamentarian Randell Dunn, Chaplain George White, Secretary Treasurer Bob Mantle, 2nd Vice President Jim Fite and 1st Vice President Bennie Bowers.  After introducing the head table President Roddy introduced the following Assemblyman George White, Vern King, and James Ford.

 

Following the introduction of officers President Roddy recognizes all the Past TSCA Presidents in attendance.  L. Ed Travis 67-68, Randell Dunn 86-87, Coy Hart 88-89, Joe Cole 89-90, Don Billings 92-93, Mike Coffee 93-94, Barney Johnson 96-97, Pete Peters 97-98, and Butch Davis 99-2000.

 

President Leighton Roddy requested a TSCA Unit roll call.  Secretary/Treasurer Bob Mantle gave roll call.  Each unit was given the opportunity to introduce their Divan Members and Dignitaries. There we ten (10) clown units out of eighteen (18) present at the meeting.  The following clown units were not in attendance.  Al Amin Corpus, Al Amin Pharr, Alzafar Kerrville, Arabia Bay City, El Maida, El Mina Galveston, Khiva Amarillo and Maskat.

 

The following units have not paid their 2001 dues.  Arabia Bay City, El Mina Galveston and Khiva Amarillo.

 

The following units were in attendance. Alzarfar San Antonio, Arabia Houston, Ben Hur, El Mina Beaumont, Hella, Karem, Khiva Lubbock, Moslah, Sharon, and Suez Abilene.

 

President Leighton Roddy called for the reading of the minutes of June 2, 2000 summer meeting.  A motion was made by Joe Cole and seconded by Mike Coffee to waive the reading of the minutes.  The motion carried by show of hands.  It was noted a copy of the minutes would be posted on the Texas Shrine Clown Association web site for every ones viewing.

President Leighton Roddy called for the reading of the treasurer’s report by Secretary/Treasurer Bob Mantle.  A complete detailed financial summary was read to the assembly.  Secretary/Treasurer Bob Mantle indicated that the beginning balanced transferred from Al Amin Corpus on June 8, 2000 was $2,337.61. There has been $2,100.00 Deposited into the account. There has been $849.23 in expenses through March 10, 2001.  Leaving a balance in the account as of March 10, 2001 $3,588.38.  It was indicated by Secretary/Treasurer Bob Mantle the Associations funds are being tracked through the software account Quicken 2000.  A motion was made and seconded to accept the treasurer’s report as read.  The motion passed by unanimous vote.

 

Joe Cole Past TSCA President made a motion to make a $500.00 donation to the International Sneaker Fund in Memory of all the deceased members of the association after a brief discussion the motion was seconded and the motion passed unanimously.

 

President Leighton Roddy called for the Assemblyman report.  Assemblyman Vern King indicated that there was nothing to report at this time.

 

President Leighton Roddy called for the Black Camel Report of all deceased members since the last Association meeting.  The following names were read: William Dube, Alzafar Kerrville, Joseph Maxwell, Karem, and Bill Reid of Sharon clowns.  Chaplin George White offered a prayer in commemoration of our beloved brethren.

 

President Leighton Roddy then offered the floor to Past Potentate Don Moore of Hella Temple to give a brief overview of times and activities for (TSA) Texas Shrine Association.  TSA will be held in Dallas, Texas from June 7 through June 9,2001.

 

TSCA Clown skit competition will be held at Hella Temple on Friday June 8th beginning at 2:00PM.  Each unit present was asked to come forward and draw for position.  For the units not present positions were assigned.  The schedule will be posted on the web site and in the packets of events, which will be distributed to each Temple.

 

The TSCA clown installation of new officers will be held on Friday June 8th at 7:00 AM.  The breakfast and installation will be held at the Hampton Inn and Suites located at 1700 Rodeo Drive in Mesquite, Texas.  The cost of the breakfast will be $15.50 per person.  No tickets will be sold at the door.  Registration forms were distributed to all unit heads present.  Registration forms will also be listed on the web site available for downloading.

 

Each unit head present received forms for the Nemnuf Award.  This form is also available on the web site and must be returned by May 5, 2001 in order to be eligible and to allow time for engraving the trophy.

 

President Leighton Roddy made a recommendation that the TSCA unit rosters be listed on the Association web site.  Joe Cole past TSCA President made a motion this be permitted.  After a brief discussion a vote was taken and the motion carried by unanimous vote.

 

President Leighton Roddy called for the election of officers.

 

President Leighton Roddy put into nomination the name of Bennie “Be-Bo” Bowers for TSCA President for the year 2001-2002.  The nominations were closed and Benny Bowers was elected by acclimation.

 

First Vice President Benny “Be-Bo” Bowers put the name of Jim Fite of Sharon Temple into nomination for First Vice President for the ensuing year 2001-2002.  The nominations were closed and Jim “Garibaldy” Fite was elected by acclimation.

 

President Leighton Roddy opened the nomination for 2nd Vice President.  Coy Hart Past TSCA President of Moslah Temple put up the name of George “Pudgie” White of Moslah Temple.  George White was qualified to be nominated to the office of 2nd Vice President by meeting all the requirements according to the TSCA Bylaws.  There being no further nominations the nominations were closed and George “Pudgie” White was elected to the office of 2nd Vice President.

 

President Leighton Roddy then opened the nomination for Secretary/Treasurer.  Randell Dunn of Hella Temple put up the name of Bob “Checkers” Mantle for nomination.  There being no further nominations the nominations were closed and Bob “Checkers” Mantle was elected to the office of Secretary/Treasurer.

 

President Leighton Roddy then opened the floor for nomination of Parliamentarian.  Eddy Cox of Hella Temple nominated Randell “Randy” Dunn to serve as Parliamentarian for the ensuing year 2001-2002.  There being no further nomination the nomination closed and Randell “Randy” Dunn was elected as Parliamentarian.

 

President Leighton Roddy then opened the floor for the election of three Assemblymen.  The following nobles were elected to serve as Assemblyman James “Curly” Ford of Alzafar Temple, Vern ”Pogo” King of Arabia Temple and Barney ”Kooter” Johnson of Suez Temple.

 

President Leighton then offered the floor to TSCA Past President Joe Cole who introduced a guest speaker Mark Renfro, Board Member of the International Clown Hall of Fame.  Mark Renfro presented the organization a program on becoming a member of the International Clown Hall of Fame.  There are two types of memberships.  Individual and Family.  The individual membership cost $35.00 per year.  The family membership cost is $50.00 per year.  The International Clown Hall of Fame is a non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of the Ancient and Honorable art of clowning.  Through May 1, 2001, the ICHOF will donate $10.00 of each new membership received to COAI’s Educational Scholarship Fund or the ISCA’s Red Sneaker Fund.  Any interested parties may visit the International Clown Hall Of Fame website at http://www.clownmuseum.org/

 

Newly elected President Benny “Be-Bo” Bowers invited everyone to attend mid winter next year in San Antonio.  He said his unit is already putting things together so everyone will have a great time”.

 

President Leighton Roddy then thanked everyone for attending this years mid winter meeting, and explained the dress code for the Saturday night dinner.

 

TSCA Chaplain George “Pudgie” White was asked to give the closing invocation.

 

There being no further business the meeting adjourned in peace and harmony.
